Amorphous solar panels – the latest technology with lower production costs and lower efficiency – 8-10%. They are made of very thin layers of amorphous silicon.

They require twice the area to produce the same amount of electricity as single crystalline or polycrystalline panels. They are more efficient at higher temperatures.

Solar panels manage to use only part of the sun’s radiation and convert it to electricity.  Commercial solar panels have an efficiency of between 12 and 23%. It is a common misconception that the efficiency of a solar panel is a very important item, sometimes more efficient solar panels have a significantly higher cost and therefore do not justify the investment.

Currently the highest efficiency of solar panels is achieved in laboratory conditions and is approximately about 43%. The efficiency of solar panels is significant only if the building is limited by the roof or other surface where the solar panels are installed, so it is necessary to extract as much energy from as little surface as possible, if there is enough space to install the solar panels the efficiency is not so important.
